Cheri Dennis

Cheri Dennis is a Cleveland-born R&B vocalist whose unmistakable tone and soulful edge helped shape the sound of late-’90s and 2000s R&B. Raised in Shaker Heights, Dennis first found her voice as part of the girl group Spoyled before moving to New York City to pursue music full-time — a leap that placed her right in the center of hip-hop and R&B’s golden era.
Her breakthrough came by fate: a chance encounter with Diddy at a NYC party led to her debut appearances on Mase’s 1999 album Double Up and Puff Daddy’s Forever. Her warm, signature vocals quickly caught attention, leading to her official signing with Bad Boy Entertainment in 2001. She introduced herself with “So Complete” on The Saga Continues…, setting the tone for her velvety sound.
In 2005, Dennis released her first solo single, “I Love You,” produced by Ryan Leslie feat. Jim Jones and Yung Joc. The record became an R&B standout—premiering on BET’s 106 & Park and climbing Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop charts. She followed with the single “Portrait of Love” before dropping her long-awaited debut album In and Out of Love in 2008, which debuted on the Billboard 200 and showcased her polished vocals and heartfelt storytelling. Her track “Ooh La La” also became a recognizable theme on MTV’s Making the Band 3, further solidifying her cultural footprint.
Beyond her solo work, Cheri Dennis’ voice and pen have supported some of the biggest names in music. She has appeared on albums by Faith Evans, The Notorious B.I.G., Black Rob, Danity Kane, Yung Joc, Machine Gun Kelly, and more — contributing writing, background vocals, and standout features that helped define an era.
Today, Cheri Dennis stands as a respected artist with a lasting legacy, known for her effortless tone, timeless presence, and the unforgettable mark she left — and continues to leave — on R&B and hip-hop music.
